Houston's Top 7 Best Outdoor Workout Equipment
To avoid a gym membership crowded with swoljers, one of these outdoor exercise spots could become your new happy place. As a mobile personal trainer in Houston, I have sniffed out my favorite free places. My gift to you.
Houston, by the way, is the #1 large city for park acreage per capita. 23 acres per 1000 residents.
Hermann Park - Downtown Houston - Museum District
On the other side of the Herman Park Conservancy building from the parking lot is one of the more scenic places to workout for free in Houston. A unique set of fitness equipment exists here including the rarely-seen parallel bars.
Memorial Park - Inner loop - West Houston
2 choices for you. One station is located next to the Tennis center west side of the jogging loop. Everything you need for a calisthenics workout or body weight training all in one park. My favorite you see is suspension strength training for Houston.
Spotts Park - rice military - washington
Here the fitness equipment is spread out along the trail. One of the few areas of Houston with large hills. Do not leave valuables in your car. The bowl topography of it serves as a nice traffic noise-shield
Bayou Park - Rice Military/Montrose
The X on the right side is the pull-up bars and the left X marks some parallel bars. You’ll find a steep hill to train on near Sabine bridge. If you haven't checked out the newly renovated trails here, get there. I call it the Concrete Rollercoaster.
Terry Hershey Park - West Houston - Energy Corridor
A noisy and private. Parking is to the north off the freeway or to the south off Memorial. A gazebo and shaded playground nearby is helpful when its hot or rainy.
Arthur Storey Park - Southwest Houston - Bellaire West
Parking on the east side off of the Beltway. Not as many pieces of equipment as others but has lots of wildlife, a huge climbing structure, and a giant yin-yang platform to name a few.
Sabine Bridge Hill - fourth ward
Best view for a workout. A unique place with many adjoining sights and a killer sunset.
